Our first Boudin Barndance of July came on the eve of the 4th. Our main feature tonight was revisiting the 2019 box set from Bear Family Records called The Bakersfield Sound. A 10-CD whopper of a collection, it spans the 40s to the early ‘70s chronicling the sounds of the hillbilly & C&W recording outpost. Prior to that, it was mostly new releases our first set followed by a mixed-bag set before our weekly C&W segment. We closed the show with a little of the getting-the-R&R ya-ya’s out of the system. New albums and singles making the Barndance hit parade for the first time tonight came from Dean Johnson, Grant-Lee Phillips, Cass McCombs, Mose Wilson, Kaitlin Butts, and Fruit Bats. Buttshaker of the week???? Keeping it Bakersfield with “S.O.S” from Jim Whitlock. Now let’s all grab a cold one or three, and get to the goods….
