For those looking for a St. Patrick’s Day alternative, the Boudin Barndance was
the place to be tonight as we featured no Celtic or Irish music. Nothing
against it, just don’t own any. The new various artists compilation “Little
Darlin’ Sounds of Should Have Been Hits” was in the Barndance album spotlight
tonight. It features a collection of circa-1960s, 70s and early ’80s country
obscurities
from the Nashville indie. Featured a set of music from Bloodshot artists in
celebration of their swingin’ SXSW backyard BBQ which I wish like heck I was
able to attend. Maybe next year. Lots of first-timers as well to the Barndance
hit parade including releases from Rhonda Vincent, James King, Dry Branch Fire
Squad, John Lilly & Ralph Blizzard, Ronny Elliot, Tommy Alverson, The Twilight
Ranchers, Josh Rouse, Jesse Sykes (way behind the curve on this one), and Milton
Mapes. Buttshaker of the night???? Jerry Reed with an oldie called “You’re
Braggin’, Boy”. Now onto the goods…..
