A busy night on the Boudin Barndance. We featured tracks from the new
collection of Capitol Records reissues from Sundazed Music titled “The Guitars
That Won The West”. Three circa-1960s albums in all from Speedy West (“Steel
Guitar”) , Merle Travis & Joe Maphis (“Country Music’s Two Guitar Greats”), and
James Burton & Ralph Mooney’s “Corn Pickin’ & Slick Slidin'” the title track of
which has been the Barndance outtro for over a dozen years now. Got into a
border thing for a bit with the centerpiece the recent Los Super 7 album. Also
celebrated the doings coming up in New Orleans this weekend and next with
JazzFest. Basically an excuse to play some Louisiana stuff. As for Barndance
first-timers, other than the new Sundazed reissues, only the recent Dirty Dozen
Brass Band collection made the Barndance hit parade for the first time. And oh
yeah, we had Nora O’Connor in for a house concert here last weekend and if she
comes to your town, you need to see her. Damn can she sing and a fine band
behind her! Buttshaker of the night???? A no brainer. Guitar Gable with
“Congo Mombo”. Now onto the goods…..
