Finally some Spring-like weather in Southeastern New England today, so it got us all fired up for three hours of fun and frolic. In celebration of the grand re-opening weekend of The Knickerbocker Cafe in Westerly, we were scheduled to have as guests on the program Johnny Nicholas who helped spearhead the renovations along with club booker and noted bluesman Greg Piccolo. Unfortunately, weekend preparations got in the way and the fellows had to postpone. Nonetheless, we spent the last 45 minutes of the program focusing on the weekend’s scheduled performers including Delbert McClinton (headlining Sunday), Johnny Nicholas & His Texas All-Stars (Saturday & Sunday), and various others. Doors open at 6 each night and music begins at 8. Check out www.theknickerbockercafe.com for the complete scoop. Heck, just get down there to check out the beautiful neon sign out front and take in a bowl of spetzi in the Man’s bar.
Other happenings on the Barndance this evening included previews of Wayne Hancock, The Supersuckers, and The Fathoms who play in Providence at Club Hell, Jerkys, and Nick-a-Nees, respectively, on Saturday night. Shined the spotlight on the new Chris Gaffney tribute album Man of Somebody’s Dreams due out next week on Yep Roc Records. Other albums making their Barndance debut this evening included new ones from Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens, Tim Easton, The Radio Kings, Kaiser Cartel, The Greencards, and Dave Alvin & the Guilty Women. Buttshaker of the week???? Johnny Nicholas & the Texas All-Stars with “Mama, Talk to Your Daughter. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
