The older of our two family cats, Laverne, passed away earlier today. In her 17+ years, she never missed a Boudin Barndance, so we dedicated tonight’s show to that most loyal of fans, not to mention a very loyal pussycat, Laverne. The major thrust of tonight’s program was a preview of a bunch of the artists appearing at this weekend’s Newport Folk Festival. It’s an interesting lineup, to say the least. New releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time included albums from Alice Gerrard, Kara Grainger, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Shiflett & the Dead Peasants, and Amanda Shires. Buttshaker of the night???? Laverne always had a soft spot for Bill Kirchen, so he takes the big one with “Tell Me the reason”. Now let’s all grab a cold one, or two, and get to the goods….
