A busy night on The Boudin Barndance this evening on this incredibly muggy night in these parts. The main focus was this weekend’s Newport Folk Festival which kicks off tomorrow night with Wilco, Blitzen Trapper, and Megafaun at Fort Adams State Park and continues with two full days of music on Saturday and Sunday. We sprinkled sets of Newport Folk performers throughout the evening. We also gave away CDs of the soundtrack to the documentary Searching for Sugarman which plays on Saturday night at the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport and whose subject Sixto Rodriguez appears at Newport Folk on Sunday (and will also be at the Saturday movie screening). The film is highly recommended. New releases making their Barndance debut on tonight’s show included albums from Boston telecaster master Stan Martin, Malcolm Holcombe, Ronny Elliot and The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band. Buttshaker of the week???? From his new EP called Blue Light, Jimbo Mathus takes the cake with “Haunted John.” Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
