Where does the time go? The last Boudin Barndance of July this evening and we went with an evening of odds and ends and most with a serious pulse. Remembered Memphis-based Southern soul singer extraordinaire James Govan who passed away a couple of weeks ago. The Kent compilation collecting his Fame recordings is must-have goods. We continued our monthly salute to 20 years in the record-making business for the Bloodshot record label with a set of tunes from notable July releases from the Chicago-based concern. New albums making their Barndance debut tonight included albums from Matt Hillyear, Ben Miller Band, Otis Gibbs, Shooter Jennings, Stan Martin, Sunny Sweeney, Joseph Huber, Shovels & Rope, and local artist Matt Fraza. Buttshaker of the week???? Andre Williams & The New Orleans Hellhounds with “Never Had a Problem”. Now let’s all grab a cold one, or two, and get to the goods….
