Like a couple of weeks ago, began the Boudin Barndance this evening by looking at some recent country reissues/retrospectives from Legacy recordings, namely “essential” collections focusing on Chet Atkins and Waylon Jennings, reissues of the Chet Atkins/Les Paul collaboration “Chester & Lester” and Bobby Bare’s “Sings Lullabys, Legends, & Lies” (expanded edition), a CD/DVD set chronicling Waylon Jennings’ final performance titled “Never Say Die”. Featured music from the band Dolly Varden who play a house cocnert Saturday evening hosted by yours truly. New releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time included the aforementioned Legacy releases, Starline Rhythm Boys, Michelle Shocked, and the recent Kent collection focusing on the soulful sounds of Barbara & the Browns. Buttshaker of the night????? One Mississippi’s finest garage bands, The Gants, with “Roadrunner!” Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods…..
