An incredibly full plate on The Boudin Barndance this evening with the main event an in-studio appearance from local hero Mark Cutler of Schemers & Raindogs fame and who has since gone on to lead and perform in a variety of bands playing mostly here in Rhode Island. Joining Mark was his Tiny String Band: Jimmy Berger, Dick Reed & Bob Kirkman. For those of you outside Ocean State lines who don’t know Mark, you need to discover him (www.mcutler.com/). His latest release is called “Red” on 75orless Records and comes highly recommended. Mark and band spent the entire 2nd half of the program with us playing acoustic live in the studio. In the event you missed it, check out the WRIU archives for the replay. In addition to Mr. Cutler, we previewed music from bands playing in the area, namely the Carolina Chocolate Drops (at the Narrows Center for the Arts on Friday – www.ncfta.org), Wayne Hancock (at Jerky’s Music Hall in Providence on Wednesday), and Amy Speace & Charles Walker & the Dynamites who play the Narrows Festival of the Arts on Sunday (free show), and Paul Burch who plays a house concert hosted by yours truly on Sept 18 (www.myspace.com/rootshoot for tickets/info). Also found time to debut new recordings from Jerry Lee Lewis and The Lucky Tomblin Band. Buttshaker of the week???? The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker with “Own Thing”. Now let’s all grab a cold one and get to the goods….
