Band burnout is common, especially the roadhog types for whom incessant touring is a necessity to make ends meat. A poster band for the mid-to-late 1990s alt country heyday cranking out roots-based rockers, Mississippi-based trio Blue Mountain called it quits in 2001 for that reason. Just over a year ago they reunited for some gigs and felt the chemistry once more. By winter they were in a studio working on a record. That was followed by second session where they re-recorded songs from the Roadrunner Records days. The fruit of that activity is two new albums, Midnight in Mississippi and Omnibus. The former consists almost entirely of new material that is lockstep with the best of the first go-round while the latter finds the band revisiting14 classics and is enough to effectively demonstrate what the all the fuss was about. (Visit http://www.bluemountainoxfordms.com.) – Dan Ferguson
