The sun shined in Rhode Island today, an odd phenomenon so far during the month
of
April. We reveled in it on the Barndance this evening. Amongst the feature
spots was a birthday salute to Loretta Lynn who turned 69 just
yesterday and a remembrance of Rhode Island-based trombone great Porky Cohen who
passed away at age 79 yesterday. Releases making Barndance debuts tonight
included the new Johnny Cash “My Mother’s Hymn Book” collection, Hell’s Half
Acre, Buckskin Stallion, Reckless Records Garage Sale compilation, Mary Alice
Wood, and a nifty 5-song EP from Eric Hisaw. Buttshaker of the night????? With
Porky Cohen blowin’ that trombone, the Albert Collins number “Don’t Lose Your
