Lots of new releases in the Boudin Barndance spotlight this week. We closed things out with a focus on two terrific new soul compilations from the German label Trikont Records ( Each beautifully packaged, the first one called “Dirty Laundry” focuses on black country recordings ranging from the kind of obvious (Stoney Edwards) to the not so obvious (Pointer Sisters). The second recording called “Cheatin’ Soul” is some excellent Southern soul cuts. Both are highly recommended. Leading into this focus, we spotlighted the upcoming recording of “western soul” from The Hacienda Brothers called “What’s Wrong With Right” for Proper American Records. Due out later in June, if you dug their first album from last year, this one should equally please. Like the Trikont comps, it’s highly recommended. Played a few tracks from the late Central Texas great Adolph Hofner in remembrance of his birthday on this same date. Lots of new releases making the Barndance hit parade for the first time. These included new ones from the Lonesome Brothers, Bottle Rockets, The Walkmen, Lila Downs, Kip Boardman, Dr. John, Southern Culture On the Skids, Johny Cash, T Bone Burnett, and J.B. Beverley & the Wayward Drifters. Buttshaker of the night?????? Let’s call it a country butt-shuffle and give it to the Hacienda Brothers with “The Last Time”. Now onto the goods…..
